Iomega Jaz was a removable hard disk storage system developed by Iomega Corporation, and it was released in 1996. It offered a higher storage capacity than the standard 1.44 MB floppy diskette and could store up to 2 GB of data. The Jaz disk was a small, portable cartridge that resembles an oversized floppy disk and was inserted into the Jaz drive that was connected to the computer via SCSI or parallel port. It was popular among creative professionals, multimedia designers, and people who needed to store large files such as graphics, audio, and video. However, the Jaz drive was expensive and had several reliability issues, leading to its decline in popularity. Iomega Jaz was eventually replaced by other removable storage technologies such as USB flash drives, external hard drives, and cloud storage services.
